Marvin Vettori made a statement and re-entered the middleweight title by defeating teammate Paulo Costa at UFC Vegas 41 on Saturday.
Despite fighting in the light heavyweight division, Vettori dominated the early headliner exchanges at UFC Apex. ‘The Italian Dream’ is associated with several good combinations in the introductory shots. However, ‘The Eraser’ countered with a few blows to the body and counterhooks.
In the end, Vettori suffered the Brazilian’s second consecutive defeat. The Italian’s hand was raised by a unanimous decision.
In the co-main event, it was mostly a tie between unranked Grant Dawson and Rick Glenn. Dawson dominated the first two rounds with fast wrestling. Several attacks gave him a 20-18 lead on all three ends.
However, Glenn avoided attempts to take off and climbed the table to third place. After landing a flurry of blows, he rattled Dawson, who, despite being stunned after the final siren, went to the final seconds without being tapped. A round of 10-8 on two tables showed him how he saved the draw.
Earlier, Jessica-Rose Clarke used manipulation to her advantage and scored a unanimous decision victory over Joseline Edwards in the women’s heavyweight bout.
There was little fighting in the standing position, as Clark completed several strips and had control of the field. Meanwhile, Edwards attacked well in the third round but was unable to avoid defeat.
Alex Caceres, Francisco Trinaldo and Nicolai Negomerino were the other winners on the main card at UFC Fight Night 196.
Caceres defeated Seungwoo Choi in the light heavyweight division using a bare rear muffler. Trinaldo, meanwhile, won a split decision victory over Dwight Grant in the welterweight category.
