That season, after winning the Super Bowl, Chris Godwin married his high school sweetheart, Maria (Del Percio) Godwin. The couple met while attending Middletown High School in Middletown, Delaware. Maria’s father was Chris’ high school football coach. Both previously attended Penn State University, where Godwin was a wide receiver for the Nittany Lions. This led to him being drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Chris Godwin’s wife Maria is a professional fitter.
Maria Godwin studied sports nutrition and exercise science at Penn State University and has since become a fitness instructor. The couple said in an interview that they started working out together in high school, got a gym membership together and continue to work out together to this day.
Not only did Maria have a big impact on Chris Godwin’s training sessions each season, but she also helped build his foundation. He founded the “Tim Godwin Foundation” a few years after Chris Godwin was created by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
According to the foundation’s website, Maria enrolled at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay when the couple moved to Tampa. Together, the couple and the animals realize how much help and support they need.
They are both big believers in the motto “adopt, don’t buy” and provide prospective pet owners with all the information they need to adopt a pet. The “Godwin Foundation” team supports animals and helps give them a second chance to find their forever home. The foundation supports these animals financially as well as advocates for them and tries to find them new families, full of love.
Mariah and Chris got engaged in April 2020. That season, Chris Godwin’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers became the first team to not only host the Super Bowl, but also win it at home.
But a Super Bowl ring wasn’t the only ring Chris Godwin would get in 2021. Mariah and Chris were married in May in Malibu, California.
Chris Godwin and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be looking for a 2021 replay. With Tom Brady back at his quarterback, Godwin should be able to improve on a solid 2020 season as well. He completed 840 passes and scored seven touchdowns in twelve games last season. Last March, Godwin signed a $15,900,000 franchise deal with the Buccaneers.
