Edmonds called funk and R&B singer Bootsy Collins a “babyface” because of his youth. During his teenage years, the artist was also part of the music group “Manchild” as a guitarist in the early 1970s.

Kenny then moved to the funk band Red Hot in 1982.

Babyface debuted with their 1986 studio album “Lovers”. The album peaked at 28 on the Soul Albums Chart. In 1989, the singer released the album “Tender Lover”, which reached number 14 on the Billboard chart (1990).

The 62-year-old star won his first Grammy in 1993 as the songwriter for Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road.” He shared the award with longtime colleagues LA Reed and Daryl Simmons.

Babyface also dabbled in television and film production when he founded Edmonds Entertainment Group with his then-wife Tracy Edmonds in the mid-1990s. He was a producer on films like “Soul Food (1997)” and “Jusie the Pissy Cat (2001)”.

In 1989, Edmonds co-founded La Face Records with producer and songwriter Antonio Marquis “LA” Reed. The label featured artists such as TLC, Usher and Tony Braxton.

TLC has sold over 60 million albums and a total of 75 million records worldwide. Meanwhile, Braxton has sold a total of over 10 million copies in the US alone.

Babyface has also written and produced songs for stars such as Boyz II Men, Madonna, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Backstreet Boys, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Pink, Ariana Grande, Zendaya, among others.
