Tony Khan provides an update on AEW-IMPACT Wrestling relationship

  • by

Tony Khan spoke with Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live and provided an update on AEW’s working relationship with IMPACT Wrestling. The AEW boss said he’s open to work, but nothing is safe anymore.

Just prior to Bound for Glory, reports began to surface that Christian Cage would drop the IMPACT Wrestling World Cup to Josh Alexander, marking the end of the working relationship between IMPACT Wrestling and AEW.

On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Live, Tony Khan said:

“It’s still open to things,” Tony Khan said. “I really like these guys and we’ve done a great job. We don’t have anything secure right now and it’s different than it was last year, because in 2021 most of us have paper. But things were planned and we don’t have anything locked in at this point, but there’s no reason we can’t think of something. Scott and I talk pretty regularly and I’m excited to go to Nashville and hang out with these guys. It was fun to work in. My post-production office is literally upstairs where they record.” (H/t: Fightful Select)

How well did the AEW-IMPACT Wrestling deal work?

The arrival of the Good Brothers in AEW programming ushered in the demolition of the Forbidden Door. Kenny Omega, Karl Anderson and Dr. Gallows have teamed up to take on IMPACT Wrestling Stars in the coming weeks.

In the end, Omega won the most important title the company could offer. The Belt Collector did it at the Hard to Kill pay-per-view, defeating Rich Swann in the process. He defended the title against big names like Moose and Sami Callihan.

Christian Cage defeated Kenny Omega in a shocking decision at AEW Rampage to change the title. The WWE legend finally handed it to Josh Alexander a few weeks ago.

Despite the world title action, we barely saw crossovers. Britt Baker vs. Deonna Purrazzo was a match that fans wanted to see, and as long as AEW and IMPACT Wrestling can’t work something out, it’s going to be a dream fight.
