The main event for UFC 265 was the massive strike differential of Derrick Lewis, who landed just 16 strikes in response to a serial gain of 112 shots.
98 of Ginn’s total strokes were considered significant, while all 16 of Lewis’s strokes were considered significant in the fight.
The statistics are proof that the French fighter has completely outclassed ‘The Black Beast’ and rightfully won an interim heavyweight title by knocking out Lewis in the third round.
In the UFC 265 co-main event, Jose Aldo showed he belongs in the bantamweight division after defeating Pedro Munhoz by unanimous decision. Prior to 265, ‘Junior’ had won just one of his three bouts in the 135-pound UFC division. Aldo landed a total of 114 major strokes to Munhoz’s 75.
Dana White praised Cyril Gaines at the UFC 265 press conference after the fight.
UFC President Dana White crowned Interim Heavyweight Champion Cyrille Gaines.
Speaking at the UFC 265 press conference after the fight, White described ‘Bon Gamin’ as a talented fighter with excellent fighting acumen:
“Cyryl Gane moves as a middleweight. His footwork is amazing, the guy is on his toes all the time, staying outside and picking you apart. He’s a very talented fighter and his “Junk’s IQ is through the roof. This guy is a real piece of work. He and Francis are a bad fight in the heavyweight division,” said Dana White.
At the start of the press conference, Dana White announced the fighters who received a $50,000 bonus.
Rafael Fazio and Bobby Green were awarded “Fight of the Night” bonuses, and Jessica Penny, Miles Johns and Vicente Luc were awarded “Performance of the Night” bonuses. They all took home $50,000.
Surprisingly, Cyril Gain’s name is missing from the list. When journalist John Morgan raised the issue at a press conference, the UFC president immediately decided to award the French fighter a $50,000 ‘performance of the night’ bonus.
