The GOP once claimed to care about small government, family values, fiscal responsibility, and national security. The election of Donald Trump — a colossal amoral fool incapable of governing in any sense — has revealed a truth: the GOP exists only to serve the income needs of the rich. Armed bigotry and ignorance have been deployed to distract the base from chaos and the reality that Republicans are taking over the country.
Because Republican politicians won’t admit that their sole purpose is kleptocratic, they have to regularly whisper about culture war issues and talk about really stupid topics. “Hear if the Democrats end the filibuster, if they basically destroy the country, if they tie up the Supreme Court, if they make D.C. a state, if they federalize elections and voter control. Do large-scale fraud, so the point where it is hopeless,” he said. Cruz, engaging in the kind of paranoid, conspiratorial thinking that has come to define his party.
“We don’t have it yet. And if there comes a point where it’s hopeless, I think we take NASA, we take the military, we take oil,” said Cruz, who were unaware that if Texas seceded, American troops would be sent to quell the rebellion. What happened during the Civil War?
