When you are going to buy a mobile phone, you have two options. It’s either buying a new phone and paying full price, or getting an older phone with a better feature set for the same or lower price. Samsung Galaxy A51A As with most Samsung phones, it’s cheaper than last year’s price (up to $230). It certainly raises the question of whether it’s still worth buying in 2021.
Before we dive deeper into what the phone brings to the table, let me introduce it right away. The A51 is not worth buying with an MSRP of $400. In 2020, things were different after the phone left a deep impression on us, but time has passed since then and now there’s the Pixel 4a, the iPhone SE, and its own successor, the Galaxy A52 5G.
Google Pixel 4a and Apple iPhone SE 2nd generation.
The Samsung Galaxy A52 5G is already under $400, so for that price, it’s a huge improvement over its predecessor, with a 120Hz OLED panel, 6GB of RAM, an IP67 rating, stereo speakers, better camera settings, and 5G net. Includes support for works. The Galaxy A51 is clearly not comparable. However, the equation changes when we talk about discounted or refurbished units. Prices go up to $230.
If it’s the shutter bug, the A51 might not be your first choice.
The Galaxy A51 still has decent hardware, and the Exynos 9611 processor and 4GB of RAM shouldn’t be a problem as long as you’re scratching your fingerprints on the glass all day. It’s a little tight if you plan to use the phone for years to come, but you get what you pay for. It doesn’t feel like a king because of the plastic build, but it’s not as monotonous as other budget gadgets. It has a glitter design (which attracts fingerprints) that reflects different colors.
If it’s the shutter bug, the A51 shouldn’t be your first choice. It has a native 48MP sensor that produces solidly decent photos. It also comes with a 12MP ultra-wide-angle and 5MP macro sensor, but a good shot can depend on several conditions. Seriously, if you don’t want to sacrifice the camera experience, go for the Google Pixel 4a (thanks later).
The pictures we’ve taken of the A51 so far might not look like much, but that’s because we haven’t talked about two of its biggest strengths: the display and the software. Moving down the price ladder, OLED panels are rare, but not here. Other phones in this price range can be gray when they should be black, but the A51’s 6.5-inch OLED panel doesn’t disappoint. That said, the 3.5mm headphone jack and good battery life make it a good media-consuming machine.
The phone already runs on Android 11.
… Thanks to Samsung’s excellent support, the A51 won’t be out of date as quickly as its competitors.
But if there is anything else unusual in this price segment, it is the software support and the Galaxy A51 will beat every other phone in this segment. Samsung promises three years of Android OS updates and four years of security updates. This means that the A51 will be…
