- Samsung has released the Expert RAW Camera app.
- It offers a number of pro camera features and multi-frame RAW support.
- For now, it’s only available on the Galaxy S21 Ultra running Android 12.
Samsung’s camera app is already full-featured and offers features like Single Take, Director’s View, 8K Video Snap, and more. But what if you need a more exciting level of features? Well, you have features like RAW support, but the company has also just released a separate camera app.
The Expert Raw Camera app is available from Samsung in the Galaxy Store (h/t: Tizen Support) and multiframe-based 16-bit RAW support for basic, ultrawide, telephoto and periscope cameras. In comparison, the standard app only allows RAW shooting when using the main camera and ultrawide camera.
The addition of Samsung Community Moderator’s multi-frame approach means you can expect RAW images with better clarity, detail and dynamic range.
The Expert Raw app provides HDR capabilities, lossless JPEG support, Pro Mode controls (eg ISO, shutter speed, exposure, manual focus and histogram) and RAW profiles from Adobe’s Lightroom.
Perhaps the biggest downside is the limited release as the app is still limited: Galaxy S21 Ultra and Android 12 right now. However, a Samsung moderator noted in the comments that additional devices, including the Galaxy S21 Plus and Galaxy Tab S5e, will support the Expert Raw app in the future. For what it’s worth, I tried it on an Android 11-toting Galaxy S20FE (Exynos) and it crashed on launch.
Popular information provider FrontTron Attachments You can convert it to an APK, but we recommend installing it through the Galaxy Store if available (or wait for the official release if you don’t know what you’re doing).
