Samsung announces One UI Book 4: It’s One UI but for Windows

A UI Book 4

TL; DR

  • At SDC 2021, Samsung released One UI Book 4.
  • Similar to One UI 4 for Android devices, this version works on Samsung Galaxy laptops.
  • Samsung wants to make the visual experience more cohesive when using Android or Windows products.

Now at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC), we already have some important smart home news announcements from Samsung. But now we have some unexpected news regarding Samsung’s laptop lineup.

Samsung will soon release a skin of Windows called One UI Book 4 (h/t). Evie Greengart). Like the Android skin known as One UI 4, the Windows-based version changes the look of Windows apps to better fit Samsung’s aesthetic. It also better matches the visual experience of using a Samsung laptop than the experience of using a Samsung smartphone.

This is another step Samsung is taking to incorporate more Microsoft into its system. We’ve already seen Samsung early adopt the protocol to work with pre-installed Microsoft apps on its phones and Windows PCs and Android phones.

One UI Book 4 is available for Galaxy Book Pro 360, Galaxy Book Pro, Galaxy Book Flex 2, Galaxy Book and Galaxy Book Odyssey. Perhaps this will work for future Galaxy laptops as well.

At this stage not much is known about what One UI Book 4 will look like or how much Windows will change. One UI itself is stock Android, but Windows is not an open-source system, so there’s only so much Samsung can change. We will have to wait and see how it goes.
