Van Dam, one of the most innovative wrestlers to ever step into the squared circle, first made his mark in the mid-1990s in an extreme wrestling championship. His composure, calmness and ease were in stark contrast to the competitor he had become when the bell rang. Using a combination of crushing martial arts kicks and breathtaking aerial attacks, RVD quickly became one of ECW’s most popular stars and most-titled champion. After a short stint in WWE, Van Dam won the ECW Television World Championship for 699 days. RVD was also a two-time ECW Tag Team Champion with Sabu, a known risk taker.

When ECW folded in 2001, Van Dam joined his fellow ECW alumni in attacking WWE and quickly fell in love with the WWE Universe, feuding with superstars such as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Kurt Angle. RVD won the Intercontinental Championship against William Regal in his first WrestleMania and then combined the championship with the European and Cutter titles. In addition to his singles prowess, Van Dam has also been a successful tag team wrestler, winning the titles in favored pairings with Kane, Booker T and Rey Mysterio.

But Van Dam’s biggest breakthrough as a WWE Superstar came in 2006. That same year, he won a Money in the Banking ladder match at WrestleMania 22, earning a chance to become World Champion at any time the following year. Van Dam decided to cash in on his contract on his own terms, challenging WWE Champion John Cena for the title on his home turf at ECW One Night Stand. In front of an enthusiastic New York crowd, Van Dam emerged from a great feud as the new WWE Champion. When ECW returned that summer, Van Dam also captured another title that had eluded him as he was named the revived brand’s first ECW Champion.

After a six-year hiatus, RVD returned to WWE in 2013 to face a new generation of Superstars including Seth Rollins, Cesaro, Sheamus, and Roman Reigns. Now, in 2021, they are returning to take their rightful place among the great stars of the entertainment industry.

Don’t miss Rob Van Dam being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame for the 2021 induction ceremony, which airs Tuesday, April 6 on Peacock in the U.S. and WWE worldwide. The event will feature the Class of 2020 featuring The nWo, The Bella Twins, JBL, British Bulldog and Joshin “Thunder…
