BUTTERFLY, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha Police Officer Ja Price Spears pleaded “no contest” in Sarpy County Court Wednesday morning after he was charged with disturbing the peace in April.

In Spears’ district court case, he was released, and pleaded “no contest” to the Class III felony “vexatious” charge.

Spears picked the suspect who chased the two teenagers through her door after midnight in April. Spear’s officer is said to have pointed a gun at them and one of them got physical.

According to the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office, Spears is accused of killing the teenagers and harassing them before calling the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office. A day after her parents filed a complaint, Spears was investigated about the abuse.

Spears faces a maximum of three months in prison, a $500 fine, and restitution, but on Wednesday asked his attorney to temporarily waive probation, noting that Spears, who is on administrative leave was kept on, still working.

Tribune suspended the sentence to nine months of probation, but he was released early.

A judge ordered Spears to stay in Nebraska without further law violations, keep his job and abstain from drugs and alcohol, a judge ordered Wednesday. The officer must also pay $1,627.13 in restitution to the household burden due to vehicle damage and medical bills. Then a $50 fine, the judge said.

The prefect was also ordered to submit 25 sessions to the councilor of the judge’s council, which said the number of sessions required by the probation officer could be reduced to a spare.

“I think you have some issues with the immunity movement. And I believe that has to do with your employment and your time abroad,” the judge said.

If Spears can’t meet the terms of the deferred adjudication, he will have to serve 30 days in jail starting Jan. 13.
