On December 8, mother of two Heather Pingle of Bowler, Wisconsin, was faced with a pitiful choice that most parents don’t have to make.
In a strange chain of events, Heather’s 4-year-old son Damion Bernard fell down the stairs, apparently triggering the family dog to attack him, according to OK! News
Seeing the dog strike, Heather quickly defends her son and the dog goes after her, instead injuring him badly, leaving him reeling and fighting for his life.
Heather’s boyfriend, Shane Bernard, came home that afternoon to find her locked in the bathroom with the dog, who was in critical condition.

“We don’t know how long he’s been fighting it out there,” Heather’s sister, Shannon Pingle, said, according to the Wausau Daily Herald. “Shane came home and found him on the bathroom floor. He said, ‘I don’t have a weapon and I’m dying.’ “
The dog continued to attack Shane as he was dragged away and shot. Police arrived and an ambulance took the trio to hospital for treatment.
Both Heather’s arms were amputated and she is facing kidney failure, while her son received stitches and was given a positive diagnosis. Sadly, on December 16, Bahadur’s mother passed away.
According to WBAY-TV, police reports revealed the dog, a pit bull, was abused at his former home and is considered aggressive. Shannon added that Heather has a kind heart when it comes to animals in need and believes she can return items to rescues. Dog.
“My sister has the biggest heart for animals and she just can’t get rid of her… she has a huge heart and they thought they could fix her,” Shannon said.
“She’s an amazing person,” Heather’s cousin Jennifer Person told WBAY-TV. “Very kind and loving. He was there to help people whenever he could.
“Her children are all hers. She loves them so much, as she showed by giving her life so her child could live.
“He’s an amazing artist growing up,” Shannon said. “I always wanted to draw like her. I will miss how wonderful she was as a mother. She did everything for her two children.
“She’s a stay-at-home mom who loves her job. And her kids appreciate her. I never stop calling her and asking when she’s going to be here … because she’s always late. I’m just going to miss everything about it.”
Shannon also set up a GoFundMe to help the family with ongoing medical bills and funeral costs.
