  • Google has released the May 2021 Android security update for Pixel phones.
  • It includes fixes for several intermediate security issues, including Qualcomm code.
  • Other devices will be updated soon.

This won’t be the start of a new month of Android security updates, and you won’t be disappointed. Google releases this May 2021 patch for Pixel 3 and newer Pixel phones, and we recommend fixing a few notable vulnerabilities.

Most of the Android updates in May address flaws in Qualcomm’s code, including an intermediate security flaw in the camera and three closed-source elements. You can also see three patches for three kernel bugs affecting MIDI, Tracing, and TTY.

As of this writing, Google has not mentioned the Android functional improvements in its May update. This does not preclude a practical upgrade, but this upgrade may focus on security above all else.

The May 2021 Android update should be received as an over-the-air (OTA) patch, and a notification should arrive when it’s available. But if you can’t wait, you can manually install the factory and OTA images using the link below.
