Man arrested after attempted kidnapping of 3-year-old girl in the Bronx

SCHUYLERVILLE, Bronx (WABC) – A man has been arrested and charged after allegedly trying to rape a 3-year-old girl in the Bronx on Monday.

Police say 27-year-old Santiago Salcedo, who was walking with her grandmother, was at the intersection of Beasley Avenue and Tremont Avenue East near the BB Gas station at 1:20 p.m.

Video clips captured the heart stopping, as witnesses watched in horror.

“The man suddenly picked up the girl, wrapped her in a blanket and started running away with her,” said gas station employee Fermin Bracero. “It came so close to the fact that so many people tried to catch it.”

When the Samaritan intervened, doubt stopped him.

Witnesses told Eyewitness News that the girl’s man was quickly released, and that they checked all the people who had left their scooters on the other side of the road, and then called the police.

Bracero was working at a BP gas station at the time – before the crime was cleared.

“My grandmother was hysterical. Hysterical screaming,” she said. People here are crazy.

Salcedo was arrested and charged with kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the safety of a child.

Outside the confines of the Bronx 45 Monday night, he laughed.
