Jack Paul was scheduled to fight Tyson Fury’s half-brother Tommy Fury on December 18 in Tampa, Florida. However, the fight is now reportedly over as Fury withdrew due to injury.
The cancellation of the match was first reported by Keemstar (Daniel Keim) on Twitter. This was further confirmed by Sun Sports martial arts journalist Chisanga Malata.
The clash between Paul and Fury has been long awaited as both of them have the best records to date. It has also been announced that Jack Paul will now fight former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley as Tommy Fury’s replacement. Woodley came up short against YouTube, losing by split decision in Cleveland earlier this year.
Jack Paul turns down a rematch against Tyron Woodley.
Jack Paul and Tyron Woodley made an unconventional bet on the eve of their fight in which the loser was to get a tattoo that read ‘I love X’, and the X was the name of the winner. Wadley immediately sought a rematch against Paul after dropping a controversial split decision.
Although Tyron Woodley finally got the tattoo, it was only after a month of negotiations. According to Jack Paul, by then he had moved on to negotiations with Tommy Fury, and a rematch against Woodley was not on the cards.
It’s certainly possible that Jack Paul wasn’t originally thinking about a rematch against Tyron Woodley since their first outing only generated 500,000 pay-per-view buys. Although not a small number, it was half of what some had designed.
Meanwhile, Jack Paul bets 500k on the winner of his scheduled match against Fury. It remains to be seen if the stipulation will be enforced and his replacement will be Tyron Woodley. The ‘troubled child’ recently told TMZ Sports:
“By the time he gets his tattoo, we’ve already moved on to fighting Tommy Fury and talking about that fight. I don’t think people really want to see Tyrone against Jack Paul again. His Pass was the chance. He has $500,000 if he beats me – let’s be realistic – if he beats me, I have to give him $500,000, and when I beat him, he has to change his name to Tommy Fumbles. Legally.”
