In a shocking turn of events, Epic has started giving away one of the rarest items in the battle royale title, Fortnite’s Ax of Champions Pick, for free to some of its players. However, the developers canceled it as soon as they realized the mistake.
Fortnite’s Ax of Champions was added last year as a special award for Fortnite Champion Series heroes. The Fortnite Champion Series is the most prestigious event in Fortnite’s official competition space. The Golden Pick is awarded to the players who win the grand final of the region and become the best team of the season. Shortly after the crash, Epic removed Fortnite’s X of Champions pickaxe.
Fortnite accidentally gives out the Ax of Champions Pickaxe and later takes it back.
In its official Twitter post, Epic said, “Oops,” with a sweaty emoji. Readers can view the tweet below:
To make Champions X even rarer, Epic has some policies in place. The selection changes hands each season, meaning that only 21 players (the best three-player teams from each of Fortnite’s seven competitive regions) can have an item at any given time. It also gives the owner a lot of bragging rights, and every player seen using it in the game is one of the best Fortnite players in the world.
Even Fortnite World Champion Biga poked fun at the incident and threw himself into Epic’s crash by tweeting:
The tweet is a perfect reflection of the whole incident and shows what the lobby would be like if the ax was given away for free.
