Twitter erupts in mockery as CPAC disinvites Big Bird and his pals

  • by

The collapse of a few conservatives in recent history has perfectly encapsulated the indifference and nonsense of the modern GOP as a crusade against the big birds. The beloved avian mascot of Sesame Street’s children’s educational program drew the ire of right-wing media circles after the character announced he had been “vaccinated” in an effort to promote life-saving COVID-19 vaccines. .

Republicans slammed the message, calling it “propaganda” and an attempt to “brainwash children.” Some criticized Big Bird as a “f*cking puppet” and a “communist”. A right-wing preacher called him “the devil.”

These are clearly not the opinions of people we should take seriously, but they do show the extent to which anti-vaxxer sentiment has infiltrated a Republican Party dominated by conspiracy theorists.

Add your name to petition that Trump be compelled to testify before the committee on January 6th!!

Apparently unaware of how funny they find the Big Bird drama to the general public, the folks behind the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) released a tweet today attacking “Big Bird and Bug.” Government Mandates” with a photo promising that Big Bird, Bert, and Ernie are “not invited” to CPAC 2022.

The embarrassing tweet is perhaps unsurprising since CPAC president Mark Schlip recently called for PBS — the broadcaster that makes Sesame Street — to defend itself over the Big Bird vaccination incident.

These people want Americans to entrust them with the responsibility of running our country and then waste their time in political litigation of literal puppets. Their minds were completely corrupted by the nonsense of the culture war, and instead of meeting the material needs of Americans living in this country, they focused on such destruction.

Unsurprisingly, the incredibly childish tweet provoked a flurry of ridicule.
