Completely discharging your Google Pixel 6 can break its fingerprint scanner

The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro were then flooded with reports of various bugs and issues from users when they went on sale. Especially the fingerprint scanner. Unlocking is slow. To make matters worse, it apparently unlocks a few units. With someone else’s fingerprint. Apart from these issues, many users are now reporting another strange bug in the scanner. When your Pixel 6 battery is completely discharged, the in-display scanner is completely disabled.

Multiple Pixel 6 users complained in a reddit thread that the fingerprint scanner stopped working when the phone’s battery was completely drained. After restarting the device, the scanner did not work and the option to re-enroll fingerprints in the settings menu was also missing. In some cases, the user can run the fingerprint enrollment process, but it keeps failing in the middle with “Enrollment not complete”. Fingerprint enrollment didn’t work. Please try again or use a different finger.” Bug Reports Already Google Issue Tracker More Pixel 6 users complained.

The good thing is that it doesn’t seem to be a hardware issue, as Pixel 6 users are back to normal after a factory reset. This means you’ll have to reset your device, but at the moment it seems to be the only way to get the fingerprint scanner working again. Some users are citing the November security patch in question, but it’s unclear if it’s the culprit. In any case, make sure your Pixel 6 isn’t low on battery to prevent the scanner from working until Google fixes it.

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are Google’s first phones to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner, but these issues point to the company’s poor QA efforts.

We have asked for feedback.
