In the wake of the controversy over former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden, several players, fans and experts condemned Gruden’s racist, homophobic and misogynistic comments on broadcast and in an email on social media.
However, American political commentator and OutKick founder Clay Travis defended Gruden’s actions on Twitter.
Clay Travis defends Jon Gruden.
For those who don’t know Clay Travis, he is known for his outlandish and controversial views.
Today, he condemned the NFL and called them hypocrites for forcing Gruden to resign. He claimed that many of the rappers who will perform at NFL Super Bowl halftime have lyrics that are at least equally, if not more, offensive.
Here’s what Travis had to say on Twitter:
“Every rapper who performs at the NFL Super Bowl has more offensive lyrics than Jon Gruden’s emails. How does the NFL address treatment disparities? These are the questions all sports media will be asking if they’re real.” Was it a journalist?”
Travis wasn’t done. He added:
“By the way, I don’t have a problem with rap lyrics, just like I don’t have a problem with Dave Chappelle’s comedy routine. If you don’t like something, don’t watch or listen to it. But actors you Canceling them if they don’t like it is antithetical to the American market idea.”
The rappers Travis is referring to are probably Andre Young and Calvin Broads Jr., better known by the stage names Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. The duo, along with rappers Eminem and Kendrick Lamar and singer Mary J. Blige, were all recorded for the Super Bowl LVI halftime performance at SoFi Stadium on February 13, 2022.
