With Quakecon 2021 coming up, fans are eager to see the Wolfenstein Trilogy of the Machine Games series.
Quakecon is an annual showcase for Bethesda games and related studios. Quakecon 2021 is the first exclusive Bethesda event since the Xbox purchase. Last Quakecon featured a number of major announcements, including the unveiling of Doom Eternal and the behind-closed-doors unveiling of Fallout 4.
Although nothing has been revealed in the announced schedule regarding Wolfenstein, fans are hoping for a third and final entry in the 2014 reboot.
Could Wolfenstein III be Announced at Quakecon 2021?
Wolfenstein was the pioneer of the FPS genre in those days. However, this trend disappeared with time. From Raven Software to Gray Matter Interactive (Treiarch Software), many developers tried to revive the series, but fell flat. It depends on the machine games.
A small Swedish team, Machine Games, reimagined the Wolfenstein series as an alternate story in which the Nazis won World War II and doubled the action moments.
New Order was a huge success and revived the dormant series. Machine Games expanded the series with the prequel Wolfenstein: The Old Blood in 2015 as well as the sequel Wolfenstein: The New Colossus in 2017. Arcane Lyon was developed by Wolfenstein: Young Blood. However, this title received mixed reception compared to others.
Pete Hines, senior vice president of global marketing and communications at Bethesda Softworks, the developer of several machine games, previously hinted that a third major Wolfenstein game was on the way.
It is speculated that the team began development on a third Wolfenstein game after 2017’s New Colossus compilation, as Young Blood was primarily developed by Arcane Leon. Given that Machine Games recently began development on a new IP, Indiana Jones, Wolfenstein’s final chapter may be closer to a compilation.
Thus, the surprise announcement of Wolfenstein III seems quite understandable.
Will BJ Blazkowicz Face Mecha-Hitler in Wolfenstein III?
While BJ Blazkowicz killed old old Hitler, which was somewhat anticlimactic in New Colossus, the developers hinted at a fight between Mika Hitler’s boss in the third game. Mecha-Hitler first appeared in Wolfenstein-3D, and a modern-day reboot of the infamous character seems inevitable.
Wolfenstein III is expected to shift the focus to BJ Blazkowicz, after Young Blood put Blazkowicz’s twin daughters, Jessie and Sophia, at number one.
With Quakecon starting on August 19, 2021, fans are eagerly awaiting the next Wolfenstein game.
