After Max Holloway’s impressive win over Yair Rodriguez at UFC Fight Night this weekend, there was plenty of talk about who the Hawaiian should fight next.
One potential opponent mentioned for Max Holloway was former UFC champion Conor McGregor in the lightweight and featherweight categories, who masterminded ‘Blessed’ in 2013.
UFC president Dana White has suggested he is not happy with the idea. However, a second fight between Max Holloway and Conor McGregor makes a lot of sense for now.
With that in mind, here are five reasons why the UFC should make a fight between Max Holloway and Conor McGregor next.
#5: Max Holloway and Conor McGregor obviously want to fight each other.
Not surprisingly, the UFC doesn’t always consider what its fighters want when it comes to booking fights.
Rose Namajunas, for example, has suggested that her next strawweight title defense should be against Carla Esparza, who currently does not want the promotion.
But while UFC president Dana White has shot down the idea of a fight between Max Holloway and Conor McGregor – calling it “stupid” in a recent interview. However, this time they want to change their mind.
Of course, as White says, McGregor is still recovering from the leg injury he suffered against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. However, a second bout with Max Holloway is clearly of interest to him.
Not only did the Irishman post a rather strange video on Twitter this weekend, apparently watching ‘Blessed’ below – albeit through his television screen. He also used social media to mock the idea that Holloway is the best boxer in the UFC.
In return, Max Holloway said he was on the “short list” to fight McGregor. Which should come as no surprise as a fight with ‘The Notorious’ would give Hawai’i a chance to avenge one of his earlier losses in his career.
So while the UFC doesn’t always agree to the demands of its fighters, in this case, both Max Holloway and Conor McGregor have the power to impose their hand. At the end of the day, these two stars want to face each other, so the UFC should make it happen.
