2 cops shot during confrontation with armed suspect in the Bronx

BRONX (WABC) – Authorities say an investigation is underway after two police officers were killed in a shootout with an armed suspect in the Bronx Wednesday night.

A shooting was reported at East 187th Street and Beaumont Avenue around 8:15 p.m.

At a press conference Wednesday night, NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said police received a 911 call from a man with a gun at the location.

Police recognized the suspect and confronted the man.

Police say the suspect then pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officers.

The female officer, a one-year veteran of the force who also serves as a US Air Force Reserve, was shot twice in the right arm.

The second lieutenant, an 8-year veteran, had a bullet in the right arm exiting his left chest.

The suspect, who was shot three times, will survive surgery.

All three were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital. The presence of both is also essential for survival.

Police say the suspect’s gun was stolen from Georgia. They say his career was criminal.
